Johnn Eilertson, son of Eilert Michael Hendricksen and Barbara Johansen Schadt, was born 13 Sep 1823 in Fredericksborg, Denmark. (By some, the name was spelled Ellertsen)
John was married in Denmark, to Gertrude Christena Lund.
Some Children were born to them while they were living in Denmark. One of them was Julia, born 4 Mar 1848, also two sons.
This family were of the first group of converts to the Gospel Restored, as taught my missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Elder Erastus Snow. They received Baptism on 24 Feb 1951 and received the spirit and call to "Gather to Zion in the valley's of the Rocky Mountains of Western United States". They were soon on their way, crossing the Great Plains fo the Valley of Salt Lake. They were Members of the Pioneer Emigtant Company, led by Captain .......... they arrived in ..........
The Eilertsens were personally acquainted with Leaders of the church, among the President Brigham Young, also the family of Orson Hyde, Missionary Apostle; one of Hyde's wives was a personal friend of Julia Eilertsen in Denmark and this relationship continued in Utah.
Being directed by President Brigham young the Eilertsens first settled in Spanish Fork. Another son, named John was born 13 Jan 1855. Father was active in Church and Community projects.
Among his friends were Frederik Fechser, a German convert and Fred's Brother in Law, hilip and Niels Hl Norresen also from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Niels B. worked as a miller of flour probably being taught the business by Fred Fechser. All of these families joined the group sent by President Brigham Young to strengthen the settlements in Sanpete, which struggling for existence under occasional raids by unfriendly Indians. The wars in Utah County led by Chief Walker had involved these men who served to defend the settlements, there is seem that Niels B. and Philip B. had arrived on the site of the new Town of Mount Pleasant in April 1859. They worked at grubbing brush, plowing ground and planting early crops. In May, a stone fort was started with all laboring in its construction.
The Eilertsens arrived in 1859, also and did their part in the building of this community, Allreds, mainly of Spring Town, which had been settled by father James A. and his families. March 22, 1852 having seen their Fort, in "Allreds Settlement", burned by Indians, in Jan 6, 1854, came forth and helped to build a stone fort, near where stood the lumber mill of Hamilton and Potter, burned by Indians, had the new fort being called "Mount Pleasant:, the name of their home in Tennessee, being suitable here. Fechser, an outstanding figure in the milling business enlisted the aid of his friend, John Eilertsen as his partner and they built a "burr" mill on Pleasant Creek, just south of thei present mill site on the osuth side of the creek. This was operated until 1866. We here do not have the date as to when the Eilertsens moved into the neighboring town of Spring City, also resettled in 1859, but Ward Records of the Church, from Minute Book accounts, we learn the brother was a member of the Twenty Second Quorum of Seventies and John Eilertsen, was in attendance of his Priesthood Quorum Meetings. one of them dated Dec 1863 at Spring City, Sanpete Stake.
John owned a Residence here in the Northest section of the city, as indicated on an old map by Daughter Utah Pioneers now being copied by this writer, Historian for N Sanpete County Camped, DUP
John did his part during the Black Hawk War thur Sanpete and Sevier Counties and further south.
This Record is in the Files of History by Jenniw A. Brothersen
John E, Owned a tract of farming land in the area on the south east edge of Spring CIty where he had a summer residence of farmhouse. Here his sons assisted in the care of farm crops and the raising of farm aniumals during the 1860's and probably during th 70's
One of John's daughters Rosetta E. was married to Frank Budrick as son of our Prominent Dr. Lutellus Burdick. They had two daughters.
After moving to Mona, Juab the Ellertsens built a beautiful brick home, just off main street where they entertained or housed and served meals to travelers for some while. Then they built and operated a fine store with general merchandise for many years. Then the father could not longer operate it, his sons with the help of some grandchildren continued to run it. On 26 Nov 1900 the loved wife and mother Gertrude passed away. Johns friend, Borresen, now living in Spring City, had lost his wife, Anniken, who had an unmarried daughter, Mary Christena B. and John wrote for her to come to Mona and keep house for him, this she did immediately. These tow formed an attachment for each other, even tho Stena had other suitors, so on 5 Mar 1902 these went to Manti Temple where they were married for eternity, they were happy together tho not for long as Uncle John's health began to fail. Aunt Stena cared for him tenderly and he passed to his reward at the home in mona on 2 May 1903. and was laid to rest beside his dear wife Gertrude, a noble spirit, a valient pioneer loved and revered by all who know him including this writer.
