Margaret and her seven children sailed from Liverpool on the ship, John M. Wood, in the Robert Campbell Company, leaving 12 March 1854 and arriving in New Orleans, sailing up the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers to Council Bluffs, Iowa


Evidence from emigration and church records proves the Kay family traveled to Utah in 1854. After sailing to America in 1854, Margaret Kay and her six oldest children received their patriarchal blessing in Utah in February 1855, proving that they had to have traveled to Utah in 1854.
